Our collection now features the 1978 MBZ SL280A which is a mechanically sound choice for vintage car enthusiasts. It acquired immense commercial success, and was awarded for its exceptional quality and level of equipment. The R107 range was available with 6 and 8-cylinder engines. In 1973, in answer to the oil crisis, Mercedes got rid of the V8 as the entry level engine and replaced it with a six cylinder, in both SL and SLC – coupe – bodies. The R107 model range was manufactured for around a period of 18 years.
This was a homologation version of the big coupé, featuring a new all-aluminum five-liter V8, aluminum alloy bonnet and boot-lid, and a black rubber rear spoiler, along with a small front-lip spoiler. The 450SLC 5.0 was produced in order to homologate the SLC for the 1978 World Rally Championship.
